Colorado is very dry and sunny. IT’s important to choose plants that will thrive in our environment. There is no point in wasting energy and resources to recreate a “cottage” garden style or anything lush. We just don’t get enough water or shade. I’m looking for inspiration from other arid climates, like the Mediterranean or Southwest. Right now, the land is open and exposed to the elements. The fruit trees planted here years ago are stunted and need more protection and companion plants. The yard is just a dusty dirt pad in some areas. The earth is severely compacted from years of cars driving every which way. The views though! Mountains on every side! The important features we need to focus on:
-ground cover
-shade structures
-dedicated outdoor spaces and paths
-xeriscape
Now it’s time for my favorite part, researching plants that will work perfectly in the environment.
