This year for Halloween I want to try to make a moth costume. I find them both beautiful and terrifying. Their markings are so striking and intricate.
I have a vintage nightgown that is frothy and gauzy, I’ve never worn it and if not now, when? The color of the gown reminds of some of the florescent blue markings on the black witch moth. I also have a vintage fur cap.
I would like to hand paint the cape to look like moth wings and go all out with the makeup. I’d like the makeup to be slightly weird and strange, otherworldly and alien, to evoke the terror I get from moths. And of course one can’t forget the feathery antennae and bug eye sunglasses!
The point is I want it to look hand made, like old vintage Halloween costumes. I’m going for elegantly strange, like I’ve just escaped from under the glass of some naturalist’s cabinet of curiosities.
