I just moved into new rental near Crown Hill Park. It’s bright and airy, with an open floorplan that combines the living room, dining, and kitchen. Our living room space has doubled in size compared to our last house. There are some lovely architectural features, such as hardwood floors, a huge picture window, and coved ceiling.
I’m not trying to spend a fortune on all new decor, moving is expensive enough as it is! Our small IKEA sectional couch and vintage green armchair are mainstays. Instead of hanging bookshelves like in our last place, we have the floor space to to accommodate one of my favorite design elements, long, low bookcases. I can just envision them along the back wall of the living room, to hold all the books and art supplies, and of course lamps and plants! The book cases are still to be built.
Another design element I would like to try out, are pojagi curtains. Pojagi curtains are originally from South Korea and were a way to use up smaller scraps of fabric. I think the patchwork linen looks a little like stained glass windows, while looking like artwork themselves. I’m also in need of a clever end table for the chaise side of the couch. The idea is that all the smaller furniture should be movable, which is why we’re foregoing the coffee table. I’m thinking about something that can nest or slide up real close to the couch when you need it, but doesn’t block access to the end of the chaise.
Artsy lamps, unique houseplants, and a pouf or two should add interesting color, pattern, and textures to this eclectic look. I want it to be inviting and full of interesting things to catch your eye and start up conversation.
